Health Care
The status quo is keeping 1.8 million Michigan citizens without health care, and we need a change. All Upper Peninsula and Michigan citizens deserve access to affordable health care. I have worked with Governor Granholm in the past three years to reduce the cost of health care and expand access to focusing on three key areas: Expanding affordable health coverage to more than half a million people who do not have insurance today, improving the overall quality and efficiency of health care through improved health information technology, and creating a culture of healthy lifestyles.
I support using the state’s bulk-buying power to pass prescription drug savings on to all people, and I also believe we need to repeal an unfair 1996 law that gives complete immunity to drug companies when their drugs harm or even kill our citizens. Michigan is the only state in the country that gives pharmaceutical companies a free ride, and we need a change.
