About Senator Prusi
Michael Prusi, a resident of Ishpeming Township, is Senator for the 38th District, which includes Gogebic, Iron, Ontonagon, Delta, Dickinson, Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Luce, Schoolcraft, and Menominee counties.

He currently serves as the Democratic Vice Chair for the Senate Appropriations Committee. The Senator also serves as Democratic Vice Chair on the Labor & Economic Growth and Joint Capital Outlay subcommittees. In addition he serves on the Higher Education and Corrections and Judiciary subcommittees. Before being elected to the Senate, he served three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Prior to his legislative career, Mike worked for over twenty years as an iron ore miner for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company at various Marquette County mining operations, including five years as an underground miner. He was elected to three terms as President of Local Union 4950 of the United Steelworkers of America. He was a member of the International Union’s Wage Policy Committee and Upper Peninsula Delegate for the union’s Committee on Political Education. Mike also served on the Executive Board of the Marquette County Labor Council.
Mike’s involvement in many local community projects included service as the United Way Fund Drive Co-Chair and as a Trustee on the Bell Memorial Hospital Board in Ishpeming.
Mike has attended Northern Michigan University and Lansing Community College. He is married to Sandi and is the proud father of two daughters, Heather and Holly.
